Ostrava, October 2, 2017 – The Foundry at ArcelorMittal Engineering Products Ostrava, a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Ostrava, realised the biggest investment in its modern history. A custom-made frame saw worth nearly CZK 15 million designed for cutting high-tonnage moulds will now shorten the cutting time by one third. The frame saw has been in operation since the end of September.
„Our new saw ranks among the biggest of its kind in operation at foundries worldwide. The investment will make the production of large moulds more efficient and it will above all also reduce the production costs. Besides increased performance the saw will also bring an improvement in cutting, while quality will be twice as high as regards roughness. I am deeply convinced we’ve made a huge step towards increased competitiveness,” says David Božoň, Head of Production and Technology at ArcelorMittal Engineering Products Ostrava.
Installation of the saw with a 3.5 x 3.5 m cutting window started at the end of August and it took up almost a month and a half. Following a successful testing period the new saw was set to full operation at the end of September.
„The investment aims at shortening the cutting time of large moulds of up to 3.5 metres in diameter and a weight of up to 120 tonnes by one third. This will speed up the production and will make it possible for us to serve our customers within shorter delivery times than we were able before,” adds Daniel Doležal, Sales and Marketing Manager at ArcelorMittal Engineering Products Ostrava.
The frame saw was tailor-made by the Italian company SOITAAB Impianti which has only constructed a saw of such size for the second time in its history. The first one is operated by a company in Russia.
